Claire Latané engages in public scholarship co-designing and writing about learning environments that support health, justice, and climate action. Her book—Schools that Heal: Design with Mental Health in Mind—presents research and shares design, communication, and funding strategies to help parents, educators, designers, and school districts remake school and community landscapes. She founded the Collaborative for Healthy and Inclusive Learning Environments (CHILE), which partners landscape architecture students with K-12 schools and organizations to co-create community-led, evidence-based landscape plans. To date, CHILE has made plans with 38 school communities and inspired over $3.5 million in grant funding to transform schools.
