Executive Director Unlimited Play Lake St Loius, Missouri
This session equips landscape architects and designers to guide communities from initial vision to completed inclusive play environments. Participants will learn to engage stakeholders, assess existing conditions, establish inclusive design goals, and translate those goals into comprehensive master plans and successful implementation strategies.
The course introduces six design elements—Imagination, Social Inclusion, Independence, Active Motion, Graduated Complexity, and Fun—as a framework for creating play environments that are inclusive, engaging, and sustainable. Through two real-world case studies presented by an inclusive play design leader and a playground construction specialist, attendees will gain practical insight into how thoughtful planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and construction expertise work together to transform vision into successful built projects.
Learning Outcomes:
Evaluate community needs, stakeholder priorities, and existing site conditions to establish inclusive design goals during the planning process.
Apply six evidence-based inclusive play design principles when developing playground master plans that serve users of all ages and abilities.
Identify design and construction challenges that influence accessibility, usability, safety, maintenance, and long-term project success.
Implement collaborative strategies between landscape architects, manufacturers, contractors, and community stakeholders to successfully move projects from vision through construction.
