G. Mathias (Matt) Kondolf is a fluvial geomorphologist and Professor of Environmental Planning in UC Berkeley’s Department of Landscape Architecture. He teaches environmental planning, hydrology, environmental science, and river restoration on campus and an annual shortcourse near Lake Tahoe. Matt’s research concerns human-river interactions, including managing flood-prone lands, urban rivers, and river restoration. His >200 scientific articles and books have received over 25,000 citations (google scholar). As fluvial geomorphologist, he has worked on river restoration across the globe, including projects in California, Florida, and Switzerland. He advocates for giving rivers wide corridors within which they can be wild and biodiverse.
