Dr. Gary LaFleur, Jr. has used this background in reproductive biology to develop ways of monitoring biomarkers of wetland health in Louisiana for more than twenty years including collaborations that measured antibiotic resistance in microbes, mRNA levels in fish exposed to endocrine disruptors, fish assemblage in terrace restorations, frog call density in wetlands, and vegetation cover and geomorphic profiles using sUAS. As executive director of the Center for Bayou Studies, he has made numerous presentations on how coastal communities interact with the environment as well as organizing symposia on ecological and anthropogenic issues connected to Louisiana’s Coastal Zone.
