Matt Ells has a decade of experience directing large-scale design projects around the world. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Planning and Environmental Science from Virginia Tech and a Master of Landscape Architecture & Master of City Planning from The University of Pennsylvania. While at Penn, he received the Ian L. McHarg Award, given to a graduating MLA student who has demonstrated excellence in design and best exemplifies ecological ideals in contemporary and culturally pertinent ways.
Prior to Butler Parklands, Matt worked at Architectural and Landscape Architectural design firms in Chicago, Rotterdam, Los Angeles and New York.
