Johanna Barthmaier-Payne is an Associate Professor and Department Head of Landscape Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. She serves as the director and principal investigator of the Sustainability Design Lab, and a principal investigator for Equitable Nature-based Climate Solutions, a multi-institutional collaboration supported by the National Science Foundation.
As a co-founder of A TON, Johanna integrates landscape architecture, industrial design, and graphic design to advocate for environmental issues and experiential education. Prior to joining RISD, Johanna worked with firms James Corner Field Operations, and OLIN, contributing to a diverse range of projects from concept to construction.
