SUN-A01: Biodiversity-Positive Transformations of Blighted Urban Landscapes

This session will explore the intersection of ecological restoration and innovative green infrastructure within blighted urban landscapes and brownfields, showcasing how biodiversity-positive landscapes can thrive in urban contexts. Attendees will gain insight into measurable biodiversity improvements, collaborative approaches with interdisciplinary teams, and strategies for integrating sustainability into post-industrial landscapes.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply regenerative design principles to transform contaminated and blighted urban sites into biodiversity-positive landscapes that enhance ecological health and urban resilience.
  • Examine interdisciplinary collaboration strategies that integrate landscape architecture, ecology, and community engagement to achieve measurable biodiversity improvements and long-term environmental benefits.
  • Develop practical methods for implementing habitat restoration, soil remediation, and green infrastructure to create self-sustaining urban ecosystems that support pollinators and wildlife.
