Explore the New Orleans Museum of Art’s Besthoff Sculpture Garden, sited within one of the country’s most important public parks. Members of the design and contractor teams will share the concept and execution of the garden’s complex design, New Orleans City Park’s significant legacy, and its 21st-century ambitions.

Includes transportation and catered lunch.

Accessibility: This session involves extensive walking, including traversing uneven paths along the historic lagoon system.

Learning Outcomes:

• Illustrate ways to work within landscapes of cultural and historical significance to balance new uses and contemporary insertions while respecting and interpreting multiple layers of history.
• Understand how early conceptual design ideas translate into built spatial, material, and detail expressions of the design.
• Examine strategies implemented to manage stormwater and improve water quality and understand the project’s role within City Park’s lagoon system and the larger ambitions of the Urban Water Plan.
• Demonstrate the working relationship of the design team and the contractor, and discuss tools developed to communicate design intent and test solutions for successful implementation.
