Explore the idea of radically changing the paradigm of the profession, reimagining a future where nature is our client. How do we cede agency to nature, practice deep ecology, and apply ecological democracy in our work? This session expands the role of landscape architecture to advocate for the sacredness and interconnectivity of all life.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Invite landscape architects to challenge their paradigm and their way of perceiving nature through an eco-centric, deep-ecology, traditional-ways-of-knowing approach.
  • Learn about the rights of nature, ecological democracy, and more-than-human species agency from the perspective of different cultures and movements.
  • Explore weaving Indigenous ways of knowing and being in relation with nature to provide a more holistic, regenerative, and reciprocal project.
  • Learn different ways to invite nature’s agency to the design table, to engage with nature, to think like nature, and to identify nature’s needs and rights.
  • Co-discover the opportunities and challenges of ceding nature agency in the design process.
  • Initiate collective ways of co-creating a future where nature is our client.
