How can we use historical ecological data, contemporary urban ecology science, and post-occupancy wildlife monitoring to help foster a more biodiverse landscape in our cities? Using St. John’s Terminal in New York City as a working example, this session explores how to design the wild back into our built environment.

Learning Outcomes:

Understand how NYC’s historical ecology informs its current configuration and future opportunities for integrating biodiverse strategies.
Understand how ecological history, consulting, and post-occupancy monitoring can enhance a design process and enable better results.
Develop a framework of biodiverse design strategies through an award-winning case study.
Be introduced to the process of wildlife monitoring and how those results might impact future design decisions.
