Maurepas Swamp, Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority

Join members from the ASLA National Award-winning 2023 Coastal Master Plan team to learn how the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) develops, plans, and constructs projects, with visits to the Lower Mississippi River Physical Model at the LSU Center for River Studies and to projects under construction in southeast Louisiana.

Experience an exclusive, hands-on field session—limited to just 24 participants. Includes transportation, boat tour, catered lunch.

Accessibility: This session primarily takes place on a boat and is not wheelchair accessible, which may present challenges for attendees with mobility limitations.

Learning Outcomes:

• Learn about the unique deltaic hydrology and geology of Southeast Louisiana and the causes and drivers of landscape change and land loss along Louisiana’s coast.
• Learn about CPRA, its role, and the development of the Louisiana Coastal Master Plan.
• Learn about the Lower Mississippi River Physical Model and how it and other modeling tools inform CPRA’s planning and decision-making.
• Learn how CPRA’s work leads to built projects, observing and visiting multiple project sites showcasing different project types.
